I am in the business of making costume wings!
This is an example of my work. They have a 10 foot wing span, and are made entirely of real feathers - no fabric or felt or paper feathers used here! This wings are jointed to open upwards by pulling a cable attached inside the framework. The straps are nylon and adjustable, so one size fits all. I can make these wings in many different colors, and moveable, or non-moveable. Because of the cost of the feathers, the price for a pair of wings is high, but depending on the size you would like, if the wings are moveable or not moveable, and if the frame would need to be made of wood or foam, the cost varies. A pair of wings exactly like this (movable), or in another color, will cost $1,400, pre-paid so that I can buy the materials. For non-moving the price is $1,200. This is at very little markup from the cost of materials only - aka the feathers alone for this size are $700. I do need to make a living. They take up to three months to create for this particular size (mainly waiting for the feathers to be dyed/bleached and delivered). I am not taking commissions until June, but spots are filling up already. |
